Possibly moving soon

Post by Raleighwheels » Sun May 20, 2012 4:20 pm

If things go right, I will be getting my own apartment soon. The landlord is okay with birds, so that means they are coming with me.

Now, I have two questions:

Is there anything I can do to make it less stressful? They apartment would be about twenty minutes away from their current location.

Next, I want to grow bird safe plants for them to nibble on. So, is there a type of potting soil I should look for that would be okay for the birds?

As for the move, I would do it as quickly and smoothly as you can; make a trip (or multiple trips, if need be) with just birds, nothing else. This way you can get them in and set up, without having to worry about unloading or unpacking anything else in the same trip. Put them in smaller transport cages, if you have them available, so they have less room to flap around and potentially injure themselves. Cover with a towel or sheet, as trees and buildings flashing past windows could be very frightful for them. If there is going to be a temperature difference between your current house and new house, try to make the new house the same temp to start, and then gradually change it, so they have time to adjust to it.
As for potting soil, go with the organic kind; I have used the miralce grow brand organic in the past with no problems. This shouldn't have any fertilizers or chemicals added to it, so should be safe!
Good luck with the move!

I agree with what Nelissa recommends.
Good luck with your move!
