I recently saw online a finch cage with tons of shredded paper. Anyone else do this? Anything suitable? Not suitable?
Thanks in advance to all.

Not sure. I use paper towels in my cages and sometimes if they fold a little too close to the grate, the finches will shred them for me
I don't think it would be harmful for them, so long as it isn't dyed paper or newsprint with non-vegetable based ink.

my sister has been giving her finches paper towel for a few years now. they love it!
just make sure you change out any yucky towel and they will be fine

If I am not mistaken that pic might have been the one where somebody was showing me how their finches love to play with shredded paper...I don't think it was used as a bottom cover.

Thanks for that. I was curious because they did look really happy.

I did give them a few small pieces of paper towel the other night - and within hours they had built it into their nest. So it certainly kept them busy.
Thanks again.

What sort of finch do you have?
Perhaps they were happy because now they can make a nest and lay some eggs....

I have zebra finches. They are currently sitting on 4 eggs.

I have never thought of putting shreds of paper in the cage. It sounds like it would be fun just to watch...only my finches seem to eat anything new I put in the cage.

Helloo! That was me with my shredded paper cage - but only as an infrequent toy due to the mess

. I use newspaper for the main flight cage bottoms usually.
I provide the shredded office paper for my flocks when I don't mind the clean up.
Every day when the cages are cleaned I provide them with some paper towel in strips, some Kleenex in strips and some grasses from outside. They watch me put the new "toy" in the cage...it's cute to see them cocking their heads at me. hee hee
