Twirling Forbes Parrot finch?? Help

Post by G8love4finches » Sat Jul 14, 2012 12:28 pm

This is what I woke up to this morning....This Forbes hen was rolling around on the bottom of her cage....When she rests and settles down this is what she looks like....Notice the cocking of the head

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdLSgT5FamM

When she panics it turns to this....very disturbing....I have her in a hospital cage and watching her closely..

Anyone seen this in Forbes before?

The panicking video was when I first put her in the hospital cage.....It shocked me too....I thought she was never going to stop thrashing.....She now is just sitting quietly with her head tilted....Poor baby!

Aww Debbie, I hope she stops that.. It does not look like twirling. Can she be having seizures?

I thought of that.....She has always been a little nervous bird....I didn't breed her because she was always flitting around the cage on the sides of the cage.....She would rarely settle on a perch....

Good for you for being a responsible breeder! I think the best you could do is what yu are doing now, maybe pad the sides of the cage so she doesnt get banged up?

I'm so sorry for you and your bird. It looks very bad.

I'm not sure its twirling though. I have had this a few times with birds and I'm afraid only once managed to save it. I've always tried treating them with an anti-bacterial. Baytril or Sulpher based.

Just make sure a low dish of seed and water is handy. They cannot find food.

 I'm afraid it's touch and go. Usually once they are this bad mine have died in a few hours. [-o< praying for your girl.

Oh my gosh Debbie thats terrible. Your poor hen :( I don't think it is twirling either. Is it possible that she got a night fright and hit the side of the cage or crashed into something that may have caused some neurological damage? If you don't mind me asking how old is she? Where did you get her from?

I pray for a quick recovery for your little hen.

I'm so sorry for you Debbie! I had a Cut-throat hen that twirled - not quite as bad as your poor Forbes though. It's possibly neurological damage - if she hit her head somehow the wrong way. Mine survived for a long time (over a year) but probably better to have them put down. I don't think it's any kind of life for them to live like this. JMHO Again, I'm sorry, I know how difficult this is for you.

Oh dear... I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. Poor little baby. Would you be able to put it down? I have to learn to resort to doing this as I could not stand to see one suffer. Prayers for you and the bird.... [-o<

She is about 2 years old.....She came from Ponytail Joe.....She is not better and rests for a while and then struggles again.....I hate to have to ask this but does anyone have a humane way to put her out of her misery?.....I can't believe I am asking this....I do not think she will improve. :(
