Please help!!! Zebra eye swollen shut!

Post by hailee » Sat Jul 28, 2012 11:03 am

Yesterday, I came home on my birthday of all days to find that one of my hens had attacked another and plucked the feathers out around her eyes! I pulled the injured girl out to check her and there was no bleeding, she was just heavily plucked. I removed the aggressor and quarantined her. This morning I woke up to find her right eye swollen shut!! Will she lose her eye? Is there anything sort of medicane I can get to help her out. I am so worried for her! Please help!!!

Happy belated birthday! Sorry to hear about your Zebras. Thevfirst line of defence for any accident or illness is a hospital cage - as you've done - and a heatlamp. If there is no blood, then I would simply give avian vitamins such as Guardian Angel, NV Pwder or Vitalize in the drinking water and keep an eye on her for a few days. Good luck.

hopefully, it's just the tissue around the eye that is swollen from being so plucked. if there is no blood/discharge, the eye should start to look better within a few days. agree with Liz, a heatlamp and some extra nutrition should work wonders. keep us updated!
