Lump on Zebra Finch Beak

I noticed a few weeks back one of my finches had a lump on his beak - he was being attacked by the others so I moved him to a separate hospital cage.

He obviously doesn't like being isolated much, but I'm having a hard time of telling whether this thing is going away.

He's got his own supply of molting blend seed and I've ensured they've been getting vitamins, iodine and liquid calcium supplements in their water to the specified doses.

I grabbed him and took a look - it appears to be made of beak tissue but its slightly pliable. Other than the lump, he seems to be in perfect health.

I have included a photo, its not completely clear but you can make out this extra bit on the underside of his beak.

I'm rather hoping its not a tumor, but it would seem the most likely diagnosis at this point.

Getting him to a vet simply isn't an option, I don't have the funds.

I don't know anything about lumps on a Zebra finch beak but i hope someone with more experience can help you.

My female zebra finch has a similar bump. I'll be interested to see what others think.

I can't see it properly on the picture but it sounds like a growth that one of my birds had. I was advised to use Paraffinum liquidum on his beak once a day, and in around a week all the growth was gone :) If you can kind of take the flakes off then it should be the same thing.

I've been treating him with liquid paraffin (Diprobase, to be exact)

It seems to be helping a little, unfortunately he's a very spry little guy and exceedingly difficult to catch and treat!

Maybe house him in a smaller cage while he's undergoing treatment - so he will be easier to catch...

Good luck with him...I agree with Liz, house him in a separate cage.
