Yesterday, I brought home 3 new society finches. They seemed to settle into their new cage nicely. Today, I noticed that one of the boys had way too long nails. I trimmed his nails, but it seemed to be a traumatic experience for him- he's probably never had them clipped before. He's been sitting in the same spot, on the same perch I placed him on for about ten minutes.

My question is, have I put too much stress on the little guy? Do you think he could be going into fatal shock? I'm worried about him.

I wouldn't have personally trimmed a new birds nails after placing them in a new cage for at least two weeks unless it would be dangerous to them. I would look at the nails and trim them before placing them into a new cage so all the stress is dine in one hit. He is probably in a bit of a shock after being handled so much in a short time, but if he's eating and drinking I would leave him be for now.

Welcome to the forum Maddie! I myself would have waited a week or two. Or like Dan said do it right before putting them in the cage.. I hope he perks up, but he should be fine, just a bit scared and stressed.
