seed-like growth

At first I thought my female had a seed-hull on her beak. The more I look however, the more I think it is some kind of growth. It is orangish-brown in color. Does anyone know what this might be?

I guess it is possible for bird to have a fungus of some type. It could be an abnormal growth. Do you have pic to post? I'm sure someone here can give a better clue as to what it is than me.

If you click on the blue link in my original post it will take you to a picture. The picture isn't that good but you can see the lump on her beak.

Ahh...silly me. Didnt see the link. It does look like a red millet husk. If it is and it doesn't come off sometime today you may want to take her out of the cage just to double check. If its not a husk I would call a vet and see if they know. Beautiful bird by the way, I love the BF goulds.

I somehow posted my picture with other peoples. I saw the bandage too but I can't claim it as my own. I don't know if it fell off. I went to look but she is sleeping.

Looks like the Gould hen amy have a mite problem. I'd treat her for mites, and then put her on an antibiotic to see if it clears things up.

weird nose

Well, I've ordered SCAT. It isn't here yet though. She's clicking and she looks like she has a wet vent. She eats fine (greedy even) but I've noticed she keeps picking at her feathers too! So now I'm wondering what kind of mites she has or if she now has two different kinds. The male is fine so far and I'm hoping a treatment of scat for all will cure everything.

I think it was some kind of nose discharge. It is kind of black and bumpy around the nose now but the nostril is open. I am just guessing and monitoring closely.

Also, I don't see diarrhea so I am not sure why her vent appears wet. Maybe she had just taken a bath when I checked lol!

You'll still need to give antibiotics because the SCATT will kill the mites and dead mites can cause secondary infections. Scatt alone may not be the cure all your hoping for.

We've always used Amoxitex for 5 days after treating for mites with good results (no secondary infections from the mite treatment).
