I think the bleeding has slowed if not stopped, but he coughed up a lot of blood first, so I don't know if it's from low blood pressure or if it's really stopped. I tried to put some dry baby food in his mouth to see if that would help with the bleeding. I don't know if I can do the same with flour.

Danielle,
I would hold the baby so the throat can drain without the blood choking the baby, but I don't think there is anything you can do if the throat was cut. Hopefully, you just nicked it and he/she will recover with heat and TLC. I might give him some water? Not sure how old the baby is, so it could aspirate. I pray everything resolves and the baby will be alright.

Is this mustard??? She should be old enough for you to try flushing his throat with water like Deborah said, but be extremely careful. Maybe some cold applesauce? I am just thinking of things that would sooth the pain.

I really wish I could help but I've never encountered this. I would not suggest putting flour in the mouth - I think this would cause the bird to choke as it is too dry - like us trying to swallow flour. I hope the bleeding has stopped. [-o<

Okay I think things are under control. I think I did just scratch his throat. In a little bit I'm going to give him water and some yogurt watered down and mixed with a little baby food. The breeder said the yogurt would help prevent infection. The food from the first pipette is still in his crop, so it's not a punctured crop. Also I was told that they bleed a lot when it's a head or mouth wound, so that's why there was so much blood.

Can an admin please take my number off the earlier post.

Thank you for helping guys.

Rispa be careful wih giving parrots and birds dairy, it is not easily digested by birds. I would stick to unsweeten applesauce and baby formula.

Does applesauce also have properties to help prevent infection? I also have some baby food. I have a pureed fruit and pureed veggies. The fruit includes pear, apple, apricot and possibly some other fruit. The veggies includes spinach, carrots, peas and possibly some other veggies. I may not feed him again tonight though. I saw him eating some seed on the ground, so I think he might be okay for the night.

Aw great news Danielle!!! I hope he does good, not sure what pureed food would help, but pureed carrot sounds good :D

Well I have it to add a little flavor to the hand feeding formula sometimes. I was told it helps them to try new foods when they are older. I was wondering if either the veggies or fruit being added might help the wound or healing or something like that.

This Budgie is not Mustard, this is Snuggle Bug. We have more Budgies that I will eventually post pictures of.

Do you guys think I should start using some antibiotics just in case? If so which one would be best for this situation?

Oh I also think he's drinking on his own. I haven't seen him do it, but he must be because his face and beak were clean of blood when I took him out to feed this morning.

Just a quick update. This little fella, Snuggle Bug, has been doing very well. He's becoming pretty good at flying and has been completely weaned since shortly after this incident. He is a happy, healthy cute little Budgie :)
