What else can I do??

Post by kinnika » Thu Feb 14, 2008 12:36 pm

I have a male Gouldian I am having problems with and I need some expert advise.
I do not know the age of this little guy. I have had him for 4 years and someone else had him from someone else before that. He is with his 2nd female as his mate that I got him with was in such bad shape she died a couple of days after I got them. Right now he is in a large flight cage with his mate and 3 babies that fledged 2 weeks ago. All are doing great except him. He is again loosing all his head feathers. This has been an ongoing problem with him for as long as I have had him. I feed them egg everyday I also have good seed. I give them vitamins everyday in their water. I put 4 drops of Vegetable Iodine drops which has Kelp in it in the water daily. I also put powder kelp in the egg. They have a good source of calcium as they have a cuttle bone as well as I scrape one and put it into a dish for them. What more can I do for this little guy? How much kelp can I safely put in there with the little ones. He is eating and drinking he just looks terrible. Could this just be stress? I have taken away the nest box as I do not want them nesting again. I only allow 1 clutch a year with him.
Any suggestions will be very helpful.

I read on some site that goulds need to bath semi daily and if they don't we need to try and mist them, is that his problem?

If not then maybe you should try FeatherFast:

I had a Zebra that had no feathers around her tail and they didn't regrow for months until I introduced that product. I also used it for my two gouldian males during their molt, one of them had a big bald patch on his head (wrote about it here) but all is fine now. So you should give it a try I think.
