Heating

Post by LauraBird » Mon Sep 24, 2012 4:36 pm

Hello,

It's been a while since I've checked in and lots has happened...I can give details later, but here I go again with question:

I have the gouldian finches in a wire flight cage, but I am having difficulty finding a way to keep it warm enough for them without making myself have to work in 85 degree heat. They are in a small computer room with doors. I bought a space heater today and it is heating up the entire room quite well, but I won't trust a space heater (fire hazard) overnight or when I'm not home.

Any suggestions? I have also bought a ceramic heater, but I just don't think that will be enough to keep the heat where it should be.

What is the temperature in your computer room? Have you checked with a thermometer?

Though most exotic finches like it warm, I don't believe they have to be kept at 85F temps. I have African waxbills, and I keep my house about 68F in winter, and all my birds do just fine. For the birds that are in the outside room, I use one of those oil-filled radiator type heaters with a thermostat that kicks on if the temperature drops below 60.
