Could be any number of things. Is he catching any kind of draft? Stress? Is he in a moult? Could be feeling slightly under the weather. Maybe try placing a heat source (medium wattage light bulb) a few inches from one perch in the cage and see if this helps. Bob

From the site:
http://www.geocities.com/bjbills1/ASM.html
The signs of air sac mites (open mouth breathing, clicking sounds, sneezing, tail-bobbing, etc.) are also consistent with many other respiratory ailments.
A diagnosis is made by wetting the feathers on the neck with alcohol and transilluminating the trachea with a bright penlight. This procedure is best performed in a darkened room. With normal vision, the mites can be seen as dark, pinhead size, moving spots in the trachea.

A very easy way to positively diagnose ASM if that's what your thinking it has.

I think we are in the same boat. my green singing finch is about 2 weeks old or so and this one at the bottom of the cage and the very puffy, labored breathing too. this one didn't look good from the start. so I feel bad for you, it's tough. you want so much to make them feel better. - Tammy
