My seagreen parrot finch it currently unable to fly very well. When I took her out for closer examination it appears the the feathers towards the end of the wing have been broken. 1) Can anyone tell me how this happens? I took her out and put her in a smaller cage to rest 2) Is this a good idea or should I just leave her in the large aviary? She's strong enough to fly to the first level of branches but not to the higher branches where she normally sits. 3) Is there anything I can do for her to make her feel better or help the healing process?
thanks again

Laura

Is this a recent development or an ongoing issue?
I have a Forbes hen that has a flight problem as well. Ever since I acquired her, she has used the wire screen to get where she wants to go. Her flight is loud and inept and appears to be a struggle. As a result she also is picked on by the others. It doesn't appear that she is regrowing her missing flight feathers either for some reason.
Wish I could be more help...

My Star Finch, Merlin, lost all his flight feathers in his wing and tail (as he had a heavy moult) and could not fly well for several days! He's re-grown his other feathers in now, and seems to be alright, but its hard when they moult very hard!
