So I am just curious...

What type of medicine do you readily keep on hand for whatever reason that pertains to health, illness, and/or new aquires...

.Scatt and worm away
Always have a bottle of liquid calcium just in case of egg binding but haven't had to use it yet. :)

Because I breed gouldians I give each new gould a scatt treatment when in quarantine just to be safe. It is mainly for air sac mites.
Worm Away is also given while they are in quarantine which is to de worm them.

And how do you give it? Mix it in the water?

Like always Deb you are such a wealth of knowledge :)

The directions will be on the bottles but scatt is a drop on their skin and worm away is mixed in their water. :)

And what about "IVERMECTIN"?

Seems kind of like a universal use item...

Ivermectin needs to be repeated, I think twice a week for three weeks because it's only active for a few hours where the scatt is active for 21 days. Ivermectin is added to the water though so you don't have to catch each bird. Of course if its a new bird when you move it from the transport cage to it's quarantine cage it's not a problem to drop scatt on it before you let it go.
Other then that difference they are used for the same things.

yeah I wanted to avoid the whole catch thing... I know it must be terrifying for them to be caught and held and then to have to position them to give them the drop between the shoulder blades where I could just mix it in the water...

now it says to give before the breeding season... so since they are currently brooding eggs I shouldnt dose them now right? cause they could pass it to hatchlings and possibly overdose the chicks?

they are 100% indoor and have no exposure to other beds or pets...

Do you suspect your birds have ASM because I didn't think it was common in zebra finch.

These meds only kill mites that are present and do nothing to prevent your birds from getting mites.
