For once I am not talking about my wife, anyway, at the last checkup Riff was a healthy 27 grams for a young Java, but these days he seems to be piling on the weight, he seems visibly fatter, and when you compare him to Raff another Java who is the same age he is definitely fatter. Is it genetics? They both eat the same food.

Hmm I can't offer any advice, but this is also the bird who is acting strange? I don't know if it would be related but I would be a bit concerned.

Yes it is the same bird that often has periods of lunacy, after which it will take a break and breathe with it's mouth open. Both Riff & Raff have regular health checks and both always come away with a clean bill of health these days. There are no mites, bumps or anything like that

That sure is strange he is gaining weight for no obvious reason. Could the finch possibly not be as active as the others or maybe he is just picking out only the seeds with more fat?

That's really odd. Did you ask your vet about it?
