I am sure this has been discussed before on the forum, but since I don't know how to do a SEARCH on the subject...How long is the recommended quarantine for adding new birds to a flight??? Thanks everyone.

Re: quarantine???
The answers will be very different from different people but here is a web page that explains a procedure that would be a good starting point. http://www.ladygouldian.com/content/why ... -new-birds

Re: quarantine???
Debbie - thank you. I'll check it out. I notice that people medicate the new birds when they add them to the flight. I was wondering if I should have medicated my whole flight when they arrived from the finch farm. I have them for 3 weeks now and haven't done so yet. What do you think??? Thanks, Ginene

Re: quarantine???
To search,
- in the top right corner, there is a button [Search], click on that
- in the search field, enter "quarantine"
My quarantine period is 78 days.
This period is driven by the treatment schedule.
There is a WIDE range of opinions on treatment during quarantine, from nothing to a suite of treatments. There are many opinions of quarantine procedures, but in the end, it is a personal decision.
I would treat your first birds like any other inbound birds. If you treat birds in quarantine, then you should treat them.

Re: quarantine???
When I get new birds they all get a treatment for worms and I Scatt them for air sac mites. After that I treat for anything that may come up during quarantine.
If nothing else I would worm all your birds just to be sure they don't have any or bring them into your flock. I don't see gouldians in your list of birds so you could treat for ASM or not, I don't think your species are so susceptible to them as the gouldians are.

Re: quarantine???
Any wormer for birds that is in your price range and readily available will do. A popular one is Worm Away by Morning Bird.
