Society finch female - sitting and staring down

Post by Nanthawat » Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:57 pm

I have two females, i recently added two moresociety finches into my cage that is about 3' x 3' I know one of the new one is a male and I am not sure about the other one.
Now one of the female is just sitting and staring downward for several seconds before she starts acting all perky again then flies elsewhere then stares downward some more.
This just started happening when I added the two new pairs in last night.

I am planning on getting a flight cage today though, should I be worried about her?

Is she possibly straining to lay an egg? I would keep an eye on her and offer her calcium.

My Gouldians sometimes do that too. I seems they are staring in between their legs for a second or two, then snap out of it. But repeat this behavior a few times a day.

I thought it was related to the hen laying eggs, but I catch the males doing it all the time too.

They're all healthy and about 2 years old, so I don't know what to make out it either!

I just let them be :)

But I wonder too what that means!
