peeling beak

Post by Tammy » Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:07 pm

I have a couple of society finches and I was noticing that some of their beaks look like they are peeling or chiping away. is there something I could give them to help them. -tammy

This may be a fungal infection. Not sure of the medication. I used one called F10 but it was prescribed by the vet. Whatever it is, get onto it quickly. My little Zebbie Meep meep struggled with a really bad infection for 6 months, and in the end, I had to have him put down

Most times it's nothing to worry about and just a natural process. Maybe a picture would help guide you in the right direction.

My Aramis' beak did that....I did some research and found that finch beaks grow in layers, like a human fingernail. A small amount of "peeling" at the edges is prob ok, but keep an eye on it. Aramis' beak is totes back to normal now, and his brother's has done the same thing.
I hope that helps! :}
