I've never had Javas, but they sure look like the result of fighting in an overcrowding situation, with the weaker ones getting the worst of it. Keeping them separated, as you are doing, till they can get in better shape, and then giving them the good diet and care you will be providing them, they should come around. Hannibal and Stubbs will be handicapped, but they should be fine. They may have to be watched in the future, if you ever put them in with the rest of the birds, just to make sure they can take care of themselves. They are striking birds, aren't they?

Well I just want to say that I think that it is great that you took them both in.
When I got my first Java it was also in similar condition but with good care he pulled through. Got 2 more of them now and they are indeed a joy.
Here is my first Java after he recovered, he was maltreated by his previous owner.
When I got him I kept him on mixed seed and egg food before slowly starting to introduce veggies into his diet, I put vitamin supplements in with his water very morning but I would change the water about 5 times a day, I would only use mineral water at first. It wasn't long before he started looking better.
Any idea how old they are?

The Javas are very beautiful. But I feel sorry for the beat up ones. I bet they will come around with your good care!

Thanks for the comments Sally and Featherharp. They are striking birds, Sally. I'm really enjoying them already.
Geordie-- I was told they are two years old. I'm also giving them a good seed mix and egg food. I bought some Vitalize but I think I will return it today for some Hearty Bird instead so I have a regular vitamin to provide them.
The 4 birds that were in the best shape are already active and singing like crazy this morning. I'm just looking forward to the others improving more.
