Im looking for some recommendations and suggestions on which textured perches to get. I know a lot of people on here use the Pedi Perch brand, which are cement I think. And I know the sandpaper ones are terrible. What about the actual sand perches- do they do the same kind of damage as the sandpaper ones?
What ones do you all recommend for keeping nails uncheck, without hurting their little feet? Or what ones to avoid?

I have it in my wife's canary cage, but apparently he does not like the color of the perch, as I have never seen him on the perch.

I use the Pedi-perches, and yes, they are concrete. I have one by each tube waterer, so the birds land on that perch every time they go to get a drink. However, my Berry nails grow so fast that I still have to catch them up for trims. But I have never had a bird with sore feet from these pedi-perches.

As long a you have other normal perches for them to go to you shouldn't have a problem with any textured perch that you choose.

I have a Pedi-Perch in each cage, and I also use terra-cotta plant saucers for seed. I believe the texture is more like what they would encounter in the wild, where they move around in the dirt and rocks searching for food, and keeps their nails (as well as their beaks) in good shape.
I haven't had these birds long enough for a real test, but it seems to be working fine so far.

I mostly use Manzanita branches, but I also offer my birds a small sand perch and a pumice. I think it helps if they have more than one type.

Yes, they have manzanita and grape vine perches now. This works great for all but one of my males. One nail grows longer than all the rest...

I have all of these too, plus smooth and sand-blasted manzanita, and some other type of wood perch with bark on them. I purchased privacy perches, but no one is interested in them yet...They take up a lot of space, even though there are only 3 in a row. I will give it more time and then remove them if the go unused.

Sally what size do you use? I almost bought an XS today, but while I was in line, I read the tag and it said it was recommended for cockatiels and lovebirds... I was afraid that it might not work- if his toes aren't long enough, the nails wouldn't rest properly on the perch and might not get filed.... So I went and put it back...
PetSmart was carrying the safety pumice perches like Gary suggested, but they no longer carry the XS size. I don't really want to order online because shipping costs as much as the perches. But I just did a phase 1 clipping of his nails (I was shaking SO badly), and I really want to get him a perch before they start growing out of control again...

I use the mini pedi-perch, which they don't seem to carry any more. Though I think maybe the XS and mini would be the same? I'd contact Hagen and see if the mini is the same as the XS. I bought mine so long ago that I can't remember if they said what species it was for.

I finally got around to ordering some Living World Pedi Perches. I got the Small size, which, according to Hagen, are 0.5" diameter. Sadly, when I recieved them, they are more like 1", with the mallets parts being about 0.5".

Will these be okay?
