Please pray for Lucy again

Post by Nanajennie » Sun May 05, 2013 8:14 pm

Never a dull minute. My little CFW Lucy is not well

Out of the blue, she is all puffed, droopy wings, I think eggbound again. I have her in the hospital cage with heat/damp towel/ gave her some liquid calcium, and it made her beak all sticky and she kept trying to swallow, she was clicking with her mouth open, so I picked her up and put a little water from my finger on her beak, and I also put warm water on her swollen vent. This poor girl. Please pray she will make it. She has a perfect diet, no spinach anymore, and I think she is just one of those hens I hear about that have troubles. Ugh. I just checked on her again and she is on the cage bottom sleeping. What a roller coaster day with the finches.

Poor Lucy...I'm so sorry Jennie. This little girl cant catch a break :( .Lil Joe and I just said a special prayer for her. Keep that calcium going. Lisa said she gives it to her hen every 30 minutes and the egg usually will pass within a few hours. Good luck [-o<

Ginene I am concerned at how sticky it was making her beak, she literally was smacking and clicking. I have Calciboost for birds. but it is sticky and tacky unlike the liquid human calcium. I just gave her somemore, and put a little water on the side of her beak to dilute it.

Thanks for those prayers! Thank lil Joe too! I believe in the power of prayer 100%

My liquid calcium is thin like water. Maybe yours is stronger since its thick. Do what you think is best. I have never been through this terrible ordeal before. You must be sick. I agree that prayers are powerful too. Especially when they come from children, because their hearts are so pure. With you in spirit, Ginene

Ginene Thank you for all your help and care, What brand do you have and were did you get it? I am sick about this, but I have come to realize I have no control over her life. I can only do my best to help and the rest is up to Him.

Yes children have pure hearts and I love that he is praying! My kids were and are all big prayers. I love it when I see one of them post things on Facebook about God and prayer. Warms my heart

Thanks again.

I guess I have to wait till the morning to see...

Good Morning everyone, I just got up and checked on her, she isn't any better. I uncovered the hospital cage and she barely moved. Her eyes are mostly closed, she is still crouched and droopy. Vent is still swollen, but, one thing that is different is she looks like she went through the dryer. Her feathers are all out of sort and she is breathing fast. Is is possible she is molting too? I have to go to work today, but will come and check on her at 1pm.

Should I leave food? She has water and a tiny bit of birdseed, but should I leave veggies etc? I am thinking not.

I would leave water, seed and hard boiled egg. Also would give her extra heat and a drop of liquid calcium to her beak. Maybe drape a wet towel over the hospital cage for extra humidity, of course be sure the heat source will not catch the towel on fire.
Best of luck, sending good vibes your way

debbie276 Thanks. I left the heat/damptowel/little dish of water and some seed. I didn't see this in time before I left for work. I am going home at 1pm to check on her. I really hope she isn't dead or suffering. I am having a hard time concentrating on work. :(

I purchased Calcium Plus from www.ladygouldianfinch.com. I use it also in combination with Feather Fast for any birds who are plucked or have bald spots. I am sure yours is just as good. I remember the day you ordered that and your heat lamp, because I did the exact same thing that night (your experience with Lucy is what pushed me to finally order those things). Bob recommended the one you got, right? He's an expert, so feel good about it.
I am eager to hear how she did today. Lil Joe and I are still praying for her (and you too)...

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the support! Thanks for the good vibes, and Thanks for the prayers lil Joe! It must have worked because a miracle occurred in front of my eyes today. I came home at lunch time, got here around 1:10. Lucy was in the hospital cage on the perch with an egg on the bottom of the cage :D

She was hopping around a little and looked a bit better, and meeping. I put her in her flight with Lina and went back to work. When I came home there was another egg at the bottom. Is it possible she laid another egg? She is acting 100% normal now.

Thanks Girls for the support. I was a wreck all day. It is really horrific to watch an egg bound hen. So said and painful. I wish I could give her a hyster'egg'omy!!!
