Ok, so I was reading through the Air Sac Mites thread. It was alot to take in! I've never even thought of preventative treatment. :/
Should I be doing that?
And do all types of finches need it? I have no gouldians or canaries.

I can only speak of my own experience with ASM. I bought a hen about 12 years ago that had ASM. During my quarantine I treated with scatt. She was eventually added to the flock in the aviary, lived many years and was a great mother. Not once did I have ASM pop up in any other bird or a repeat in her. I have never treated any of my birds with a ASM treatment routinely it is only included in my quarantine for all in coming birds.
S76, Iverlux, Ivermectin and Scatt are NOT preventatives they are treatments. They do nothing to prevent ASM only kill any that your birds may have. If your bird is exposed to ASM when the medicines potency is gone which would be the day after the S76, Iverlux or Ivermectin treatment or 21 days after a scatt treatment they can get ASM.

I am so glad that you posted this! The man I purchased my first 2 Gouldians from said that he does the ASM protocol 1x per year. He said I should do it too. I have had finches for almost 4 months now, and have used Iverlux and Worm Away as part of quarantine procedures for all of my finches. I had planned to do it 1x per year, but will not, if it is not necessary. I do give my birds bee pollen, kelp and Health Salad to help them naturally fight any sickness.
