My zebras eat fine from a cuttlebone but show a huge preference to the "dust" below them. I took out an almost finished yet ignored cuttlebone and scraped the rest off and put a little bit of the dust into their cage and they went nuts over it. Should I give them as much as they eat? I had thought they would just regulate themselves but I am starting to wonder if its a matter of "eat as much as you can while is here". The cuttlebones are still available and they still nip as those too.. my little boy even goes as far as biting it at an angle for whatever reason, maybe entertainment? Maybe to keep his beak trim? But I just wanted to make sure that there isn't a such thing as too much!
They did just lay two eggs together on May 6th and 8th that hatched on the 20th and 22nd as well and are feeding their babies well so I thought maybe it was due to that as well? They seem to eat as much of the calcium as they do food!

Hi!
Zebras like to play with cuttlebones, food dishes and everything within the cage. Regarding calcium, provide them as much as they want. There will be no problem. Best of luck!

I wouldn't worry about too much calcium if they are taking it themselves. When it's hidden in their food or water and they can't regulate it themselves there might be a chance of too much which can cause Hypercalcemia.
