Help from any Australians?

Post by Mands » Thu Jun 13, 2013 8:34 am

Hi. I am from Melbourne Australia. I am having trouble with conflicting information from the places I bought my 2 Bengalese and 2 Gouldian's from. (Different shops)

I want to buy a treatment for air sac mites and worms. I was told by the lady who sold me the Gouldian's to use 'Avitrol Plus' but then when I read it, it said not to use it on Gouldian's.

What can I buy to use on both types that is safe? and if you know it is safe, can I buy it online?

Thank you

I'm not sure if you can get Ivermectin or Iverlux from Morning Bird Products, but they are safe for all finches, including gouldians.

Hi Deborah. Thanks for the info, however they charge $30 postage to Australia. I need somewhere in Oz. :)

My friend in Australia said that any pet store will have worm medication. He uses Moxidectin or Moxidectin plus for air sac mites but you can only get it from a vet or finch club.
Maybe if you do a web search for it you might be able to find it online at a reasonable cost, at maybe a pigeon supply site?

Hi Mands,

I'm in Australia. I have gotten Moxidectin before but only through my avian vet here in Brisbane. For worms I buy wormout gel from a local pet store which works fine.

I thought I should share the details of a specialist supply company that really has a very large range of products for finches. For some reason I can't get on their site tonight which might be a temporary issue. They are www.wildlifesupplies.com.au and email info@wildlifesupplies.com.au with phone 07 5426 8088 or 0417 749 501.

They have a few products for asm listed and maybe if you contact them they can suggest an alternative product (without a vet) for Gouldians. I got onto this supplier from my Qld Finch Club and they can mail express post.

Hope this helps.

I got a product from my vet to worm my birds, it is called provenzidial, (think that is the correct spelling) I had to get a script and the chemist got it in for me. it is super easy and it is safe for all of my birds, it is one drop straight in the beak!

He also gave me anti air sac mite drops, again it was a script and it was super easy. if you call your local avian vet they may be able to guide you on the best products and where you can buy them.
Totally owned by a spoodle called Pepsi, 4 very cute zebra finches (2 fawn females, 1 ??? and 1 white male) and about 60 guppies! And loving every minute of it!

Thanks heaps for the info everyone. I think I will ring my bird vet just near me and ask what I should get to be safe, then go from there. As Debbie said it is not urgent, I am just trying to learn what to do before I have no time left. Thanks again =D> =D> =D>
