Moulting Goudians

Hi all,

I recently adopted 10 goudians, they are lovely and they seem to be settling into their new home quite fast, however they have all decided to moult at the same time! (I have seed and feathers everywhere)

They were outside at their previous home, now they are in our family room, and our house is temperature controlled, they also spent a few days in my travel cage, no where near big enough for them all but they could still move around a bit.

Is this normal? it is winter here in Australia and while it is not bitterly cold I am concerned that they are moulting in winter. I did worm them and I have put some multi vitamins in their water could this have trigger the moulting?

Otherwise they seem very happy, they are all eating, drinking and bathing! they make a collection of very cute noises and they are loving the new flight cage my husband built for them.

I have not given them a nest because I don't want them to breed! I am not sure who the parents and who the off spring are! or what the relationship is between them all! the person I took them from had no idea either!

Thanks

Cass

It is perfectly normal for all my gouldians to molt at the same time every year. I'm sure the heat of the house triggered them into a molt. As long as your not putting them out in the cold they will be fine.
congratulations and best of luck, would love to see pictures :)

moulting time is a mess; but won't they be beautiful when they're all done 8)
