Mite Concerns

Post by Lithium » Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:40 pm

Lately I've been noticing my male Zebra Finch preening a lot. It seems like it's every time I see him. The female isn't preening as much as him. Would it be okay to spray him with mite spray? My main concern is the fact that they are on eggs.

Maybe check first to see if they have mites. You would be able to see any if you just blow the feathers under their belly / look under the wing. If you don't see any, don't treat. Usually mine preen alot when they are due to moult too.

I agree with monotwine, mites are pretty easy to detect and my goulds preen more when molting too.
