Re: Unknown disease killing my star finch chicks !!!!
Not sure. Really aweful news though. As a thought, could they have eaten food that had gone off, like egg or soaked seed - if has been quite hot???

Sorry you are going through this, but I don't have a clue. If they were nice and plump, then they were eating plenty of food. What size cage were they in? Sharing with the Gouldians shouldn't have been a problem, both species are compatible.

No, if they are inside, the humidity shouldn't have been a problem. Could this possibly have been a night fright? It is strange that they looked healthy hours before dying, makes you think it is not a disease. Even with the way our finches hide illness, they usually show some sign before dying.

I suppose anything is possible, but you'd think if one of the Gouldians was that aggressive, you'd see some signs of damage on the birds. But I'd be tempted to take that third Star out of the cage just in case.

I hope all will be well in the morning. I have had those mystery deaths from time to time. Perfectly healthy-seeming birds, dead on the bottom of the cage. I've never been able to figure out for sure what went wrong, very frustrating.

Sorry for your loss! My first thought when you said you had had lots of rain was 'treat for cocci' but since the gouldians are fine, I'm not sure. Very strange...
I really hope that you don't loose anymore birds. Good luck
