What kind of mites are they? There is Avian Insect Liquidator you can purchase online and it's safe for birds and gets rid of all sorts of bug problems.

Here is a link to some articles on various mites. As a general rule, I like Avian Insect Liquidator, it is safe to use around even baby birds, yet it is quite effective. Ivermectin and/or moxidectin products are also ones to use for mites.

Welcome to the forum, BTW. There's lots of good reading at the Finch Information Center, linked at left, and the members are always ready to help. If you put your location in your profile, it helps to answer locale-specific questions, such as what might be available in your area.

I would get a mite spray, either Avian Insect Liquidator (AIL) online or go to your local pet store and get one. Most of the mite sprays now have the same base ingredient, Permethrin and Piperonyl Butoxide. I would also vacuum all around the area and clean out the contents of the vacuum when your done.
good luck
