Sick Gouldian

Hi. I'm a newbie in the forum, so please forgive my ignorance. Here's my issue.

I have a sick gouldian that I've been trying to heal for a while. He initially had the following symptoms: sleeping a lot during the day, wet vent, fluffed feathers, and diarrhea. He looked like this two days after I purchased him at a bird fair. Over the last two months, I gave him the following meds one at a time for their recommended dosing cycle: SCATT, cocci-care, amoxitex, and Ronex. He seemed the most improved after the week on the Ronex 6%, and he looked so great I thought that it had been resolved. However, three days off the medicine, he is sliding back into the symptoms of sleeping during the day and fluffed feathers. Any suggestions on what I should try next? Should I redose him with another week of Ronex?

Also, different issue, but I found it kind of interesting. Once a week, I add KD cleaner to the water for the birds in the cage. On that day, and only that day, the birds will take a bath in the water. Any idea why?

Thanks in advance for the help!

For finches you should have the 12% ronex, or double the dose

Thank you, Lori. I would have never known that.

I restarted another week of dosing at the higher rate. Hopefully this will finally knock it out.

Have you treated him with probiotics after all those meds?

Is the bird in a hospital cage, with a heat source? (one they can choose to be under, and get away from it when they want to).
A heat source can be a miracle cure!

I would also consider a course of 4-in-1, good for problems that you just can't seem to nail down.

I would definitely give a few days of probiotics, after all those meds.

Unfortunately, some are just weak, old, or have something wrong with them we can't fix.

Good luck, please keep us updated.
