Humidity or too dry?

I got my society finches this summer so I haven't taken them through an entire year of seasons. I was just wondering if I have to humidify their room to keep them healthy? Its our time of year for furnaces to kick on and air to dry to a crispy static.
Any advice?

Thanks,

asyou know i live in england and my societys live outside all the year round,as long as they are acclimatised to thier surrondings they will be fine i have been in my aviary in winter and had to break frozen water so they can drink and none of them have suffered for it.as they are like all creatures they grow thicker feathers for the extra cold or visa versa

If you plan on breeding them than I would definitely use a humidfier as the eggs require at least 55% humidity. And wet feathers from bathing can only do so much to counteract the dryness during our winters. If not, then it is up to you. I personally HATE getting zapped everytime I touch something. :)

Outside isn't really an option in North Dakota. The temperature ranges from -40F to 100F. And the wind is very strong from Canada.

I noticed their water was evaporating at an alarming rate so had to remember it IS winter soon.

I try and humidify a bit, but 55% in the winter isn't really achievable unfortunately. We are lucky to push it up to 45% (from 15-20%). But I am not looking to breed. These 4 are all siblings so its not a great idea. They are the happiest living things I've taken care of tho. I call them the Buttercup Quartet.

Seems like they are so fragile as well as sturdy that I didn't want them to become ill with the winter woes.

Thanks,
N
