My new Zebra female is always sleeping when her male friend is right next to her. But when he flies away she IMMEDIATELY flies after him.

Also....she seems to be having an issue with her left eye....its just ...not opening as much and looks like she has a rash around it. Any idea what this is? I don't want her rash to spread more. Right now it is only around her eye and a little on her neck. I'll try and get pics.

Sleeping that much usually means that she's not feeling good. Pics would help with the rash. Is her eye itself ok?

Yes the eye itself it ok. Not sunken in or puffy...just normal.

I can't get a good pic because whenever I take the camera out the male comes FLYING for a pic. The females all go into the nests.

Any idea on the rash? Any good links to a finch skin illness website?

OK. I seperated her in case it is contagious. These are the best pics I can do because she won't sit still since the move.

I feel so bad for her.......

I can't really tell - is it swollen? If so, when I had a similar problem I was advised to put the bird on antibiotics. I also made sure that it didn't crust closed. Or does it just look like she's losing feathers right there? She may be irritated and rubbing it against something. Could there be a bit of seed in her eye? There are so many possibilities.....

Its mostly lack of feathers(very little lack) but where there are no feathers it looks red and irritated. It seems to have calmed down(if thats how you describe a rash) and gotten less irritated.

The eye itself is fine.

Also. She is keeping her eye open more now.

LAst thing.

She is constantly calling and seems a bit depressed. Is this just because she is alone? Her cage is near the other cage(where the others are) so she is lonely?

She may be upset at being separated, but it is better for her to be in her own cage right now. How is the eye doing?

She is very upset about being seperated but she'll have to deal.


Her actual eye is fine but she has like a rash or fungus or something around her eye. Its getting better, VERY slowly, but I don't want to risk the other birds health.

She's eating fine and even eating the birds treat(some shredded lettuses that i use for the baby dragons) that she used to ignore.

I gave her some spray millet too and she seems to enjoy it. I'm trying to keep her occupied instead of constantly depressing herself by calling to the other birds. Poor girl.

Figured it out....

I put her back today because she looked nice and healed and then almost immediately she starts to attack the other zebras

SO after watching for a couple minutes one of the other zebras gave her a good slash in the same spot that she had feather loss. They must have been attacking her!

So I took her back out....and I guess i'll take her back to the store....


Once I took her out the rest of the flock was all happy and singing.

Poor girl.....

Good thing I had the hospital cage....

I use to hate when mine would do that but when i had them in the flight cage they got along very well.

Yeah...its a bummer.
