Rocksteady... Swollen foot now.

So after noticing his left pinky toe missing... (His right pinky toe has a nail I didn't notice as its dark)
He flies well.
He is fine singing and eating Etc
Flying, perching on the side of the cage
But at times tucking his left foot in while perching.
It seems a little pink and swollen
Basically he seems physically fine but wants to tuck his foot in.
I am hoping to get a pic, and also hope to catch him but if he goes crazy I don't want him to hurt his foot more if it is hurt.
What do you suppose I do? Will it heal over time?
Do they sprain their leg?
I don't see any dark discoloration.
Edit: his left foot seems about 1.5+ his normal width its his leg and toes!
Thank everyone

Is it possible that there is a small piece of something wrapped around his foot? Maybe catch him up and look carefully with a magnifying glass to be sure.
good luck

Debbie, thank you!
I think I found out why via Roseanne!
They were flying around (him too) and I was trying to get a really really good look. Rocksteady isn't as flinchy as the rest so he lets me get inches close..
Then Roseanne got her leg stuck on a toy thing made out of wicker! And she was flapping and moment later perching on one leg. So I think that's what caused it!
So if if IS that will their legs be ok? Is it just sprained like us and we just have to be quiet a few days? I don't know how I would catch Roseanne she hates everyone.. Well that is if I had to move them to a smaller cage so that they can rest..

Hard to say how bad they may have hurt themselves. I would watch closely for any further discomfort and discoloration. Hopefully it's just a bruise and nothing more. Glad you found out what was causing it so you could remove that from their cage.
best of luck

I would love to get another canary or finch with a hairdo (Societies or Glosters) but i'm limited to 3 birds at the moment. ALthough with the way they're moulting, i find feathers everywhere anyhow!

Zebrafincher where are you located? Mine have been doing the out of season molt here and there! I have five and that's it. I am not "allowed" any more.
They are a noisy bunch though so maybe 5 is enough. I only have two males but they sing all day... From 5 am til 8 PM (they used to roost at 5, what happened lol)
I apparently have a mini outbreak of pantry moth (and I have been very good with zip lock and Tupperware.. My fatty Roseanne have been eating them lol. I saw one swoop and eat the bug. Yay!!! Good job girl!

Hi Chirpy, I live in cold, cold Melbourne, Australia (though its going to be 40 degrees celcius tomorrow!) which is pretty darn hot!
My birds sometimes moult out of season, esp. because we have the heater on.
Cheers

Zebrafincher Melbourne! I lived in Sydney for 9 years finished HS there

I miss Sydney... Tho not the ridiculous prices of things! I bet its so nice there now.. We are in -14 weather here in Chicago. I used to walk around in a tshirt in Sydney as I was used to cold cold weather (moved there from New Jersey when I was 9)

Sydney is quite balmy, though it has the highest amounts of one way streets I've seen in a city! Weird! Sydney and a lot of the other cities in Australia have been exceedingly hot (and wet) from time to time. Its like our weather is becoming almost tropical....
