My white gouldian mama just died yesterday, I was really upset and down for her.

She was on 6 eggs after a clutch of 2 youngs (photo in young birds section - I was so excited to show them at that time)

She plucked up and did not eat, I tried handfeed her with babybird formula mixed with antibiotic, she got choked and died on my hand (It always worked with other sick birds when I treated them this way) I over fed her this time.

I have my birds on dewormer and Coccivet and Roccivet-s as recommended by Crystal.

My guess is that she used too much body nutrition for the eggs so she got sick.

In Hawaii I could not find any medicine for her, so I gotta try that way. Do your guys know any medicine for this kind of sickness?

I am so sorry to hear about your bird. I don't have any advice for you because I'm so new to the finch world. I am very sorry about your bird.

I think this is something that happens from time to time, so you just have to get used to it when breeding finches (especially gouldians).

I'm so sorry about losing your little girl. My guess is that she may have just been tired out from raising chicks and then sitting again. Was there much of a break in between? Heat and some electrolytes in the water may help next time if you have a bird who's just worn out - that's always my first step. Of course, if she really was sick that's a whole different matter.

I still have her 6 eggs tranfered to another pairs to incubate, hopefully I can have some chicks out of those eggs.

I have the same thought too that she was 'overwork'. The first 2 chicks were only 20 days old or so when she started the 2nd clutch. I had to take the chicks out of the nest for the parent to incubate.

I will definitely get electrolyte for my birds now.

Their silver dad's been feeding the 2 chicks, they can almost feed on their own now.

From what I've read and heard, some of these more unusual Gouldian mutations are "delicate".

Has that been your experience?

I do not have any experience about differences between mutations, my blue and white are just fine as any other normal gouldians. But most of my dead birds were hens, breeders and youngs too. I don't know why.
