twirling gouldian

Post by tstcpc » Tue Aug 19, 2014 7:26 pm

My male gouldian sits at the bottom looking up to the left and moves in a circle, I am thinking it is neurologic problem, any suggestions?

It could be twirling, which can be caused by an infection, among other issues. There are a few causes.
It could also be an inner ear infection; those can mess with their equilibrium too.

Ideally, I'd opt for a trip to the vet.

Otherwise, you could try the cocktail used to treat twirling that's caused by an infection: Trimethoprim Sulfate and Nystatin. (Both available on LadyGouldian.com).

It worked wonders for my girl and the antibiotics would also help it if it's an inner ear infection. Run of the mill antibiotics like Amoxitex didn't work; it was the Nystatin/Trimethoprim Sulfate combo that did the trick.
Or you could take a more conservative approach and wait for a more definitive diagnosis to make itself known before you treat, but I personally don't recommend that if you strongly suspect twirling as it rapidly gets worse. (And it will likely take a few days for the meds to arrive too.)
