Dirty Vent, Normal Poop

Post by MiaCarter » Wed Aug 20, 2014 1:13 pm

So, my new silverbill seems to have totally normal poopies.

But her vent is dirty. Not extreme, but noticeable.
It doesn't appear to bet wet. Just dirty.
I'll see if i can snap a photo. She's pretty quick and hard to photograph.

What do you make of that?
I've never seen a dirty vent with totally normal poop!

I'm not sure if this was always the case or a new manifestation. She was so puffy and hunkered down originally, so the vent wasn't all that noticeable.

She's on Amoxitex.
I've also got NV powder and a multivitamin in her water.
So I suppose it could be related to the meds.
She's also exposed to new foods, so that could also be a contributor.

I'm thinking a round of Ronex would be helpful. I was planning on this anyways, but thinking sooner rather than later would be beneficial.

Overall, she's not acting sick at all anymore. Which is shocking as the bird I had a couple days ago was so very different --- mouth breathing, puffed, and I had to pick her up out of the box and put her in the cage.

She has a heat lamp, but she's choosing to sit on the other end of the perch and isn't really puffed anymore. She's ever so slightly puffed, but peppy and sing-songey.

Thoughts? What would you guys do?

I wouldn't give her anything more right now. You're not really sure if it was there previously & anyway, it could be all the changes & meds she is on now. Give it a little time.

wildbird -- That's my thought too.
She's looking *loads* better in all.
So hopefully it's just a bit of minor upset from new foods and the antibiotics.
I don't want to over-load her. She's been through a lot of stress.

It's rather perplexing, though.
I didn't think you could really get a dirty vent without diarrhea and without sitting in poo (which doesn't seem to be the case. I don't see any sat-in poopies.)
So I learned something new today!

It may have already been there, and you are just now able to see it.
