another ailing gouldian

Post by rancho2 » Fri Aug 29, 2014 7:37 pm

this boy has been sitting on eggs with his mate until yesterday. he's puffed up, tucking his head to sleep. his neck sinks into his chest. he's been jerking his neck like a chicken-forward and back. i'm at a loss as to what to do for him. :-(

If you can put a heat lamp (desk lamp will work) next to the cage where he can perch in front of it, it might help.

I'm not great on medications etc, so not sure what to suggest other than heat and vitamins as Dutch suggested.

Good luck!

I'd check his droppings. If they look abnormal in color or sticky white or too wet etc, he may need meds. Do you hear a clicking sound, if you hold him to your ear? If so, he may have Air Sac Mites, (ADM). Have you treated your gouldians for ASM? Is not, at least consider treating with S76 or SCATT.

dutch,

he recovered nicely, thx for asking. i am a little paranoid about mites. i've only had finches for 1 1/2 years, so much to learn and get used to.
