Okay bad news is one my zebra finches flew out of his cage and land in cooking oil that had been sitting on the stove. luckily his face didnt get any on it just everything else. is there a certain to clean it off. i washed him in the sink and he dried him self off but his feathers still look as if they are still wet and this happen an hour ago. How do i get the oil off?

You might read through this weblink I found. It talks about removing crude oil from wild birds using Dawn dish soap. I would think you could modify the process for your finch. They talk about using a toothbrush and gently washing the oil off. They describe the process at the bottom left of the article in the section titled "Removing Oil From The Feathers". Best to read the whole article though to understand the precautions they advise. Hope this could help....Good Luck!

What did you use to clean him up ,the dawn soap or what. That could happen to anyone glad everything has worked out ,good job

well i didnt have any dawn soap but, i had SOFTSOAP which is hand soap and i did what FeatherHarp recommended and added soap to a toothbrush and brush his feathers. He looks like new and smells good, lol!

I bet he wasn't very happy about that was he?

no he wasn't. he was shivering so i tried to dry him off as much as i could and then i stuck him in his cage with a heat lampo on top and he sat there till he dried off.
