I don't know if this question is in the right area but I hope so.. I am having a problem with ants!! I have all my birds on a screened in back porch and just started having this invasion of ants. I vaccuum every day to keep the seed hulls up but there is always some. (carpeted with indoor/ outdoor grass carpet) What can I put down for the ants that will not be harmful to the birds if they happen to eat an ant. I hope someone has the answer to my question, I so worry about the birds as I know just a few ant bites to a little finch would be the end of the finch,., I cant bring the birds in as I have 16 cages and about 40 birds.. Thank you in advance.

Thank you so much for the link, It started with a great chuckle and ended with a good solution. I will definetly give it a try. I see you are from Florida also, we are almost neighbors, so you would know about our abundance of ants... Yuck

Thank you for your quick response, I am on my way to walgreens to buy some boric acid....

Thanks for that link, too. I am in Texas, and have just started having ants coming into the birdroom, thru the screened windows.

I wouldn't burn those! Birds are very sensitive to pollutants in the air, which is what those produce....

ok noted, cheers. Our problem is that we live right next to a river so the mozzies are everywhere during summertime, they don't really bother me but my missus and the birds have a nightmare with them.

Thanks BCamp for the web site on ants. I got some today and am trying it. I will let you all know how it worked for me. About two days ago we started having the small ants come into our bird aviary. YUK! I hate those things.

I have now tried both of these solutions and the ant traps worked best for me. They are almost completely gone. I put the traps under some newspaper on the gound.

You might try putting out cinnamon, it seems to work.

Where ever they are coming in at put some cinnamon out, for some reason it runs them off.

And if nothing else, the birdroom will smell good--like cinnamon buns!
