Smurf : No it's a new one and i'm sure that his feathers got caught in cage..

is it normal that he lose big feathers and can't fly?

If he lost his flight feathers, he'll need to grow them back, which can take up to one month. Give him lots of eggfood to help grow back the feathers. If the wound looks red, put a dab of neosporin on it to prevent infection.

If you mean it's wild caught then this sort of thing would be common and caused by the bird which has never been in a cage in it's life battering it's wings off the cage bars, trapping goldfinches is illegal here in Ireland and damaged wings would be one of the tell tale signs prosecutors would look for.
