heat lamps

Post by Airlyn » Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:51 am

I need to buy a heat lamp before my babies start to moult. I read to get a reptile one, but should I get daylight or night time one? Will night time one keep them warm enough?

Heat lamps can be as simple as a gooseneck desk lamp with a 60w bulb or specialty lamps. You can buy small clamp-on fixtures at places like Home Depot or even Walmart. Personally, I like the ceramic heat lamps (bulbs). They are quite expensive, but they will last me forever, since I only use them for therapeutic heat. I like the 60w size. The advantage to these is that they don't emit any light, just heat, so it doesn't disturb the sleep pattern of the birds. Some like incandescent bulbs, because they feel that the bird then can see the food during the night and eat at will all night long.
