I started adding morning bird hearty bird vitamin and mineral suppliment. I noticed yesterday my hen is getting very watery droppings. She is eating and acting normal. Should I be concerned? She is nesting now and spending the majority of her time on eggs.

I would stop the vitamins and minerals, unless they are free choice in a separate dish. She may be getting too much of certain minerals or vitamins and that can throw off her electrolyte balance. Offer minerals and calcium in treat dishes. That way, she can pick what she needs to be healthy. If you are giving her veggies, that can also cause watery droppings.

I have been adding her vitamins to her veggies, but only at a reduced rate. I will discontinue that as suggested and try the potatoes too although she is a very picky eater! Someone suggested I treat for protazoas with Ronex. I have never treated my birds for anything before.
Thank you all for the suggestions!

I find that when any of my girls are laying eggs, or sitting on eggs, they have these huge poops. Have not really noticed watery poops though. Have you tried to offer her just some plain boiled rice? Usually that seems to absorb the extra amount of fluids and help with diarrhea (works with other animals as well, and also with humans). Maybe cut back on veg/fruit for a couple of days as well.

Good luck.

This am her dropping were very loose when she came out of her nest first thing this am. For breakfast I fixed her some rice , a bit of mashed baked potato and some eggfood. I gave no veggies and no vitamins. I sure hope this works. I am so worried about her!

Oh forgot to mention. Limit veggies to 3-4 days a week. One day a week lettuce but give little.

Fruits no more than 2x a week. I usually space them out Wednesday and Sunday's

Is spring green mix considered lettuce? My guys love it so! I have been giving it daily but will cut it down now.
Since it is a combination of different baby greens can I offer it every other day?
She never ate any of the potato or rice.
Her droppings seemed a bit better as the day went on.
It had gotten So bad the paper looked wet like she had bathed when she had not. It was just so wet from her droppings. :(
I feel like an aweful birdie mommy!
Should I have them on some type of rotation treatment for preventative measures?
ie, ASM, protozoa, wormings etc. I have had my birds almost a year and have never given them anything.
Thank you so much!

How many other birds with her?
I give my guys Baby Spring Mix regularly and it has never caused any tummy upset.
If I were you, I would offer plain boiled rice in the morning, and nothing else (not even seed) untill she is hungry enough to eat some of it. Even if the other birds eat it, it's not going to hurt them in any way.

Are any of the other birds showing any signs of diarrhea?
If this doesn't clear up very quickly, you might need some medicinal intervention. You don't want your birdie becoming dehydrated.

There is just her mate in the small flight cage with her. He doesn't seem to have the same watery droppings as the female.
I'll take your advice and just give rice in the am.
I am worried about dehydration as well.

Well I gave in. She came out if the nest this am and still had watery droppings. I had taken all food out and just offered rice. The bird literally had a temper tantrum or was stressed one. She was flying all over cage, not just flying but chirping constantly as well. She seemed so stressed. I gave her some seed and eggfood . She calmly ate then went back to her eggs. The male definitely does not have watery droppings like her. I am thinking it us just messy poop from staying on eggs so long.
She seems healthy otherwise. I left the rice in and hope she will eat it. I was scared she w as going to hurt herself the way she was acting. The last clutch she raised all seem perfectly healthy as well. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed she knows what she wants. She is eating more calcium and mineral mix than usual (snack attack)
*Sigh*

Uh o, hen is getting a greenish tint to the droppings. It is a real pale neon green, very light colored.
