String wrapped around foot

I just came home from work and one of my society finches was caught in string from the seed catcher. I was able to cut him free from the line and have him in my small hospital cage. What is the best way to remove the thread? It is wrapped really tightly.

Success! I was a two person job - I held him while the hubs used small embroidery scissors very carefully to cut and unwrap his toes. So nerve wracking!!! But great news is that he seems no worse for wear! Yay!

So glad you found it in time, so no damage to his feet. Sometimes, string can be so hard to see that it is hidden until there is a problem.
