I bought a pair of gouldians I was unsure about....here goes

Post by Babs _Owner » Thu Nov 05, 2015 11:16 pm

About the same time I got Bri and Audy, I got another pair of gouldians. Female Brat is BH (yellow Beak) WB GB/ Male is Ricco Suave (RH- PB-BB)

I never mentioned it because they came looking healthly, but OMG Brat is demanding, downright uptight and quite literally loved on Ricco, but threw out everything he put in the nest while in quarentine.

"EHR EHR EHR" was all I heard from this little gal. I didnt think they stood a chance as a couple, even less a mated pair.

So, she laid 7 eggs (surprise).......abandoned the nest (she has this invisible line that if you cross it , she is outta that nest PERIOD) so basically she owns 1/4 of my livingroom.

After day 9 I pulled the eggs. She refused to sit and pitched a fit even if Ricco came close.

I have 4 viable eggs growing in a babywipe brooder. But I am not getting my hopes up.

Here goes the video. No applause. I dont feel comfortable with this setup at all. Its an emergency case only and I didnt want to have to do it this way.

I'll give the introductions later. Im to stressed with handturning eggs and watch the rest of the flock to even worry about this pair I bought. I took their nest out.

Good luck with it. Did you just pull the eggs? The reason I ask is that if they are showing veins, and you just pulled them, then someone was incubating.

Sally

I pulled them on the 1st of November. I was so frustrated, I didnt even want to mention it.

She never sat. They both were already building a nest on top on the eggs when I pulled it.

Sometimes its hard to admit our failures. And a bonded pair too.....ugh

Babsi, those eggs are fertile.

If I were you, I'd put those egg babies in a nest, right under Cackle and Cojax fuzzy little butts. If they hatch them, they will feed them, and raise them, and love them to pieces.

What d'you think???

What environment did they come from? I'm just thinking that perhaps if they came from a breeder who had them in a separate room with very little disturbances, being in your living room now might be too much for her?

Holding thumbs that she settles down soon!

If I had to guess I would say those eggs were about 4 or 5 days into incubation. Somebody was sitting on them.
If you have any other birds sitting right now I would seriously consider sneaking those eggs into their nest.
good luck

All I have are boy societies, and Bri & Audi are rasing their nestlings.

The eggs I figured were duds cause we waited 2-3 days for her to sit after she laid 7. She had no interest. Ricco was building a nest on top of them. so, I gave it a try in the makeshift brooder.

All the eggs were cold and just looked like infertile yellow yolks eggs.
Then on the 3rd day 4 of them sprang to life. I turn them 6 tmes a day. And they made it on 97 degrees.

Bill ordered a mini cubator to try and save them. It gets here today. Im not getting my hopes up.

But we at least gave it a try.

We tried cackle Jax and he stared in the nest like I put a UFO in there.

He will feed babies, but not sit on foreign eggs :( None of the boys took interest.

★Some boy Socies pairs, make the best fosters.★

I would try eggs into the nest right before lights out. Everyone should pile in there at night, and by morning, they may just continue sitting. Why? Because someone laid some eggs, that's why.

If that's not an option, than good luck with the incubator, honey [-o< . I'm not sure how it works. Do you put the eggs in there, or do you wait until they hatch, and put the infants in there???

With Brat, and what's his name.... it sounds like he was the overly anxious part of the equation, if he's the one who started building another nest.

Well, why not? You make a great bird Mama, so why not sit on a few eggs (?) :-D

I really hope it works sweetie..... I've got every possible body part crossed here, I feel like a New York pretzel .

Now I can't remember. How many gould chicks made it so far?? I think ur doing great. Mine pitched but I kept the nest for second try. They seem to figure it out on the second or third clutch if they are new to breeding.

Bri and Audy are perfect parents doing great ^5. I never brought up Brat & Ricco because, as I told Bill from day one "We are gonna have problems with this pair.

I kept them in quarantine until the big announcement....but they mated and I had to get a nest and give them a flight cage quick.

I broke every quarantine rule in the book, but they had mated without room, without a nest .....and I just was so distraught I never brought it up. I got them into my only spare flight cage and hoped for the best.

Ill get some pictures tomorrow of them. She is Normal GB/ BH / yellow beak (trying to figure out the genetics there), He is a STUNNING RH/ PB/ BB male.

So yepper, I now have two gouldian breeding pairs. One that raises their young (Bri & Audy) and one that are just naughty-dirty-birds ( Brat & Ricco)

Brat and Ricco's eggs are the one Im trying to save. She just wants to lay & not sit, and her mate just wants to......well you know ;)
