Hello Finch Forum,

Gonzo my new crested society finch has a hooked beak, very similar to that of an eagle or hawk (This is why I named him Gonzo, after the sea-eagle in the muppets). I think the bird is only young (just judging from its behaviour & plumage) so I dont understand why the beak is overgrown in the first place. I have added calcium blocks, cuttlefish bone and a cement swinging perch to the cage, should I do anything more? It doesnt seem to impact its ability to feed, just looks strange. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Adam

adamharbeck, I think you should trim his beak.

I think Willie is right, trim the beak. if you do it & are worried that any bleeding is excessive just use powdered cornmeal or something similiar on the area as it will help to clot the bleed
