Pokey is Sick....

Post by lovezebs » Mon Jan 11, 2016 7:15 pm

Hello all....

My little Pokey, is not feeling well :-(.

Her brothers, have been chasing her around the flight, and those dirty boys have been trying to, how shall I put it in a politically correct manner(?), have relations with her. ....

Today, for some reason, she's just not herself. I administered calcium (just in case), but I don't feel an egg anywhere in the lower abdomen, so I don't think she's egg bound.....

She sat happily in my hand for close to an hour, accepted a few drops of water from my finger tip, but is not looking happy.

Oh no :( Hopefully she's just exhausted from being "hit on" relentlessly. Im hoping a few nights alone without all the attention will help.

Keeping my hopes up for her. [-o<

Babs

I gave her bottom a nice warm bath, offered some home made electrolyte solution, and right now she's resting and keeping warm.... on my chest.

Poor Pokey, I hope it is just the stress from all the 'unwanted attention' from her brothers. She seems quite content to cuddle with you.

erine Sally

Thanks .....

She has always been such a sweet little thing. A little slow, a little dopey, but a real sweetheart.

She snuggled with me for over an hour, then perked up and looked around. I placed her back in the flight, where she ate a little bit, had a drink , puffed herself into an orange ball and went to sleep.

I hope she'll be ok.....

Is Pokey normally hand-tame like that?

Babs Rox Sheather

Thanks everyone.

As of this morning, Pokey, was puffed up on the bottom of the flight, with the family hovering over her, all concern and caring.

I gave her some electrolyte mix, a drop of calcium, then fed her a bit of bird baby food. She ate a tiny bit (she feels a bit too thin to my liking).

She went back into the flight (reluctantly I must add, as she was quite happy sitting in my hand). She wiped her beak a few times, nibbled a bit of seed and allowed the family to check her over.

Just a few minutes ago, I watched her following her brothers around, begging to be fed. Amazingly enough, they actually fed her. After that, she had a drink of water, and is now back on the flight floor, puffed up and watching her surroundings.

I can't for the life of me figure what's going on with her.

Dylan, normally Pokey, is not hand tamed, although she has no fear of me. When I change papers in the flight, I have often had to nudge her off the papers (after she gets her ride on them as I pull the papers towards me). She has always been a bit of an oddball, which makes her all the more dear to me :-).

I hope whatever is bothering her is nothing major, and that she pulls through.

Here's another picture from last night

It's kinda like Ham. Just that oddball bird that feels closer to you than to the other birds. It's beautiful, a whisper of nature. the biosphere, whatever you call it touching-reaching out to you for a few moments. And in that breath you just understand everything.

What ever happens to her, pay attention to what she is telling you. That lesson goes deeper than you think ;)

Much love Elana. Sleep tight in her dreams tonight. <3 I-) I-) I-)

I hope Pokey feels better. Its sometimes the ones that respond to us that we really gravitate too...I have a little star finch, Merl, and he's not the brightest bird, but he is a really sweetie. He can't fly very well and spends most of his time in a flight cage, but he trills and sings a very soft song. My other two zebra finches love him...

Hi all.

Pokey, is perching under a nice warm light, with family and friends visiting, and keeping a close eye on her.

I have seen her eating and drinking.

She's still not herself though, but seems better. Keep sending those good thoughts over.
