Feather loss in a Gouldian
i have a male Gouldian who started losing feathers around one of his eyes. The bare skin appears normal and not irritated. The bird does not appear sick in any way. He eats, sings, and flies around as normal. He and all of his flight mates have been treated every quarter with Scat. His diet and cage cleanliness are perfect. I've never had feather loss in any bird, and am hoping that someone could shed some light on what a possible cause could be. Thanks!

I think one of my hens has the same thing...I didn't notice it until I posted her pic on one of the threads. She's perfectly fine as well. I'm hoping it's normal.

Re: Feather loss in a Gouldian
There are several reasons why goulds lose their feathers. Feeding chick's can cause baldness on each side of the mouth from chicks aggressively feeding. Feather loss can also be from stress, nutrition, over breeding and plucking from another just to name a few.
I would be sure to add high protein foods to their diet like hard boiled eggs which also is a good source for iodine. The feathers may not be replaced till the next molt so don't panic.
I personally don't think they need to be treated with Scatt quarterly, way to often in my opinion.
Good luck, hope the feathers come in soon
