Sick parrotfinch

Post by MariusStegmann » Fri Jan 15, 2016 3:10 am

I have had a sick parrotfinch for while now. I could see that she was a little bit off. During the heat of the day, she would be fine, but as soon as it cools of she would tuck her head under her wing. I put her in a hospital cage and gave her Dovabiotic for 5 days. Then I gave her Tramasol (deworming agent) for 3 days. I put her back into the aviary with the other birds last night. but she still does not look right. She flew into the sides of the aviary and perhaps there is something with her control. While she was still in the aviary with the other birds I gave them first Calsibird (eggbind) and then a course of moxidectin. While she was in the hospital cage, I noticed that she was eating all the time. Her excretions look normal to me. Ideas anyone?

I do not have any parrot finches so I can't help you. But it looks like you are trying your best with her. Hope she recovers. Best of luck and keep us posted.

It sounds like your doing everything you can, with no apparent symptoms other than eating alot and the sick bird look it's very difficult to know what could be wrong.

1 of my first parrot finches had similar symptoms in addition to a intermittent respiratory clicking noise and nothing would cure her, She was never right from when i got her and went downhill very slowly over about 4 months until she finaly passed. It wasn't contagious as she was housed with her mate, my suspicion was aspergillosis.

I agree with Padraic..it sounds like you're doing everything you can. I wish I could help, but I haven't had my parrot finches long enough to experience any illness with them. I had a gouldian who got really sick once, and was eating a lot, but when I her up, she was so thin. She ended up dying despite everything I tried.

I am trying another product, Supreme 5 in 1 powder. It treats cancer, e coli, patatyphoid, cocci and salmonella. After that I will give up. I will catch her tomorrow and give her a drop of calsibird directly on the beak.
