Periodic repetitive peeping from year old blue cap cordon bl
I have a year old female blue capped cordon bleu who started repetitively and softly peeping on and off this week. I have had her parents for more than a decade, and they have never had any health problems. Last year they raised a single female chick, and that chick still lives with them. I have other finches in other flight cages, and none of them have been ill. Just when I think it's time to bring the blue girl to the avian vet, she stops peeping. I really don't want to bring her to the vet and subject her to stressful testing that will weaken her unless there is a good chance there is something wrong with her. So I'm writing to find out if anyone here has experienced this on and off soft sad repetitive peeping sound? There is NO clicking sound. And I've only had one finch become I'll and die in the past few years, and that was an old finch... my finches are generally healthy and live a long time.

Is the chick fluffed up or sickly? A video perhaps. Maybe she just has her own special way of vocalizing?

Not sure peeping is a sign of illness on its own. Could it be lonely or looking for a mate?

I have a pair of blue capped cordon bleus, and I've noticed the female doing that occasionally too. It's very strange. She doesn't do it every day. The pair recently bred again, so maybe it's something the female starts when she's ready for that????
By the way, congrats on having her parents for over a decade! That's impressive!

WOW that is impressive my male is 8. How old was your male when he stopped being able to breed? I think she is lonely. My female peeps it's her way of vocalizing. Hope all is well with them.

Thank you everybody. She is not fluffed or sickly at all. That's a good idea... I will try to post a video.
She still lives with her parents, and they all cuddle when they sleep, it is so cute. I got the parents more than a decade ago, and the person who gave them to me didn't give me info regarding their age or origin. They never raised a chick until last year. I was shocked, as I assumed they (especially the female) were no longer fertile.

Trying to figure out how to post a video from my new tablet onto this forum without having to type in the source address.

We're lucky enough to have a board certified avian vet nearby. The vet determined that the finch inhaled a piece of food. Apparently this is pretty common, although I've never seen this before.
The vet said that soon the food will be moist enough to stick to the wall of the trachea, and then the body should absorb it.

Both of my blue cap hens do that repetitive peep peep peep. As long as she looks healthy and is eating properly, I wouldn't be worried about it.

That is amazing for Blue-caps to live that long, and to raise a baby at that late age is even more amazing! They must have had wonderful care. Kudos to you.

yjkodiak You clearly have their care regimen tweaked to perfection for them to be thriving and fertile at their age! Hope all continues to go well for your birds.
