I either wash by hand or put them in my dishwasher. Even the wicker nests. I clean them out thoroughly and place them in the dishwasher, they come out nice and clean. If you are worried about disease, you could always soak them in a disinfectant like Virkon-S, and for parasites, you could spray them with Avian Insect Liquidator after they are cleaned. All used nesting material gets tossed.

One thing about using the dishwasher, place the plastic things on the top or turn off the heated dry cycle. I ruined a couple of gravity seed hoppers by having them on the bottom of the dishwasher with heated dry, they came out all warped.
