Blue crusty cheeks

Post by Spreckles » Thu Feb 11, 2016 3:38 pm

Old Blue continues to be my problem birdie bless his heart. Called the vet we are going on Monday afternoon. Hope the TRIP doesn't give him a coronary. Chatted a long time with my new local Bird friend about him. She is a lurker.m :P
Between the two of us came up with his hen is preening him too much. There is no agression. Caught him today and put antibiotics on both sides of his face. Both sides are bleeding small amounts. His head is so tiny it could be a lot of blood for his size.
How often does topical ointment get applied? The vet tech said crust is infection.

Oh my, poor old Blue....

She just wants to give him red cheeks again (one way or another ).

As I recall, wasn't he being kept separate from his lady love, in a cage, in another room?

As in regards to the ointment....
I would check with the Vet on this one. One has to be cautious with it, most especially if your little girl is picking at it, and possibly ingesting it.

Poor Blue is alone with a lamp he can get away from. He is in the Bird room like you suggested to hear everyone. I let him mingle again without injury for the last couple of weeks. I saw him with his lady love and seemed all was well. He was puffy yesterday and this time BOTH cheeks were bloodied. He has been in isolation since yesterday. Seemed like there was still fresh blood this morning. The vet's office told me to put some antibiotic ointment on it. That's not easy to apply! He wasn't holding still for it! Kayl said I got it in his eye. :(( :((
If it looks ok tomorrow may leave him alone. My poor little guy he is so LITTLE!

Morning update. Blue looks messy from the ointment. Guess I put too much. His little girlfriend wants in his cage. He is eating, drinking & all other important functions. Glad I made a vet appointment. I want to know.

Glad to hear that Blue, is doing alright (even if he is a bit greasy, lol).
I'm curious what the Vet will have to say as well.
