Bird lice

Post by StodOne » Tue Feb 23, 2016 8:31 am

I have bought a spray for the removal of lice , I was wondering how much of the spray do I apply it on the finches , how often should I apply it to them , is the spray dangerous for them if they start grooming their feathers after they were sprayed and if you could suggest how I should start removing the lice and the steps I need to take ..
I have a cage that I can not soak in water , should I clean the cage first with warm water before I apply the spray to the cage too?

I just had a problem with mites. Pyrethrins is what you clean the cage with. I don't know about the application of that product on your birds. I went to a site "Lady Gouldian" very informative about exact treatment. The products I bought are sprayed 12 to 15 inches away. The birds should not appear wet. Ivermectin was the active ingredient. Read the directions on your bottle or ask the manufacturer. I am very pleased withe the results from the products I bought. S76 and AIL avian insect liquidator spray. I also bought some Thrive & Herb Salad to help them recover from stress. Hope this helps.

Spreckles thanks a lot , but I am not sure if it is dangerous for them if they start grooming themselves , it has a parrot and a pigeon in the picture , i guess it can be used on finches too ..
It says that it should be applied directly to the root of a feather on their skin , I suppose that I need to get them wet when using this since when i need to get to their skin it means that they will get wet ^_^, now all I need is to warm up the house and use it :)

S76 has an active ingredient ivermectin.
The AIL spray has Permethrin, Piperonyl Butoxide and Methoprene as the active ingredients.
Directions on the AIL (which is most like your Avissan) are:
Application: Hold spray bottle 11 to 12 inches from the bird and apply four to five pumps per bird. Also spray cages, aviaries, perches and nest boxes thoroughly with diluted product. Repeat in six weeks or as necessary.
